UsAgainstAlzheimer's (UsA2) seeks a creative, agile Chief Development Officer (CDO) to provide big-picture strategic leadership as well as day-to-day management and implementation of all fundraising efforts. In addition to strategy and management, the CDO will be a critical member of UsA2’s bench of fundraisers, leading major solicitations and individual donor engagement. The Role and Responsibilities
Reporting to UsA2’s President and working closely with our Board Chair and Co-Founder, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) will serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and lead UsA2’s fundraising efforts. The CDO will champion the organization’s revenue growth, including designing, leading and orchestrating the implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy. S/he will manage a virtual, contractual development team of 4 professionals focused on major gifts, corporations, and event fundraising.
In addition to advancing a comprehensive and integrated Fundraising Plan, the CDO is also accountable for managing development operations including the development of best-practice processes for research and database management. The CDO will focus on sustaining and growing the existing base of supporters: individual and major gifts donors; corporate partnerships, events, and sponsorships; and foundation fundraising. Priority responsibilities for the new CDO include:
Creating and leading a system for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of UsA2’s key current and future donors, with a focus on establishing a pipeline of new major donors.
Envisioning a national strategy to educate and engage prospective donors (major donors/high net worth individuals), with a robust plan of ongoing engagement.
Leading the events team in supporter cultivation for our annual National Summit, annual Out of the Shadows dinner, and other events created to support development activities.
Leading the corporate development team in the expansion of corporate partnerships
Leading the events team in the cultivation of corporate sponsorships for key events
Creating a development program focused on institutional foundations, through which support for our work on gender, racial and ethnic disparities can be significantly expanded.
Other: Working with the UsA2’s network leaders and program staff to leverage the organization’s innovative programming, publications and convenings for development.
UsA2 currently uses eTapestry and Salsa databases to support our development efforts.
The Ideal Candidate
UsA2 seeks a professional with the following qualifications:
5+ years’ diverse fundraising and leadership experience, including documented success leading a team, setting a strategic course, executing against that path, coordinating multiple fundraising pipelines, and managing a wide array of development functions (individual/major gifts, social media, corporate partnerships, special events, foundations, etc.);
Track record of setting and reaching ambitious fundraising goals;
Proven success identifying, researching and choreographing major gifts prospects from new and current sources (individual, foundation and corporate), including making and closing asks;
Knowledge of and relationships with potential corporate, individual, and/or foundation space with a focus on health programming, including access and health equity, a plus;
Alzheimer’s knowledge and relationships preferred.
Demonstrated ability to be entrepreneurial and adaptive;
Campaign-style agility and creativity;
An incisive and collaborative communication style with a high degree of responsiveness to donors, colleagues and partners;
Exemplary written and verbal skills; and
Ability to learn, then envision and tell UsA2’s story.
