| The Managing Director, Education and Operations (MD) is responsible for the overall management of the educational offerings and programming for the CFA Society Washington, DC (CFAW), including overseeing the planning, implementation and delivery of learning opportunities for society members and candidates. The MD works closely with the CEO to guide the educational and programmatic strategic initiatives set forth by the CFAW Board of Directors. MD will also manage all relationships with external constituents as they pertain to education, programming and learning, (e.g. the CFA Institute and local societies, committee volunteers, content providers and others) as needed. The MD will also oversee the technology plan and operations of the organization. The MD reports directly to the CEO. More specifically, the responsibilities of this position will fall into the following areas: Education and Programming - Management and oversight of all programs, conferences and educational opportunities. Responsible for committee and consultant management as it pertains to education and programming. Participate in committee selection process.
- Work directly with CEO on education and programming budgeting; manage P&L for department budget.
- Work directly with the Chair, Programs & Education Committee, to implement the strategic educational initiatives for the society.
- Serve as staff liaison to committee chairs and members
- Jointly oversee and manage the Investment Research Challenge with the CFA Society Baltimore, including outreach to local universities, students, and volunteers.
- Formulating and recommending short- and long-range plans for the development, growth, and expansion of the educational programming and activities for the society.
- Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field, and use that knowledge to help the organization realize, imagine and/or innovate new educational opportunities that maximize the value of the organization to its members.
Operations and Technology - Management and oversight of CFAW’s technology operations, including, but not limited to: Salesforce customer relationship management system (CRM), outsourced IT support, and other third party technology vendors; third party vendor research and relationships where applicable.
- Formulating and recommending technology plans to better serve CFAW and its members. Stay abreast of association technology trends.
- Work with CFA Institute with regards to shared technology resources.
- Technology oversight – CRM, email marketing platform, and others as necessary
External Stakeholders - Develop, maintain, and nurture external relationships that are appropriate, valuable, and beneficial for the promotion of CFAW education and programs.
- Seek out and capitalize on event collaboration opportunities that benefit members.
- Advise committee and sub-committee chairs on program development, utilizing audience analysis, member penetration rates, non-financial topics, and speakers, as required.
Marketing & Promotion - In conjunction with Digital Marketing Coordinator, formulate and develop strategic marketing plans that support programs and education.
- Working closely with key departments and individuals at the CFA Institute to leverage new educational opportunities.
- Regularly scan the market and industry sectors for trends and issues critical to CFAW’s educational agenda.
Management - Direct and oversee the implementation of approved programs and offerings. Ensuring that members working on programs have appropriate support from staff. Seek to expand and augment programs that are relevant and member-friendly, and decommission services that are fully mature and no longer provide a useful benefit to members.
- Maintain an open dialogue with volunteers to answer questions, focus their efforts, and keep them informed.
- Attend meetings of the committees as appropriate.
- Recommend the retention of outside services or agencies, within budgeted limits.
Financial Management - Work with the CEO to develop and maintain education and program budgets. P&L responsibility for education budgets.
- Monitor and control expenditures.
- Suggest opportunities for additional revenue sources within the educational arena of the organization.
General - Local travel, required, limited regional travel possible
