The Senior Program Manager will oversee APA’s online learning programs (excluding journals and MOC) and the Learning Management System (LMS). This may entail collaborating with subject matter experts (psychiatrists), partner organizations or allied groups, and/or APA staff to develop courses and content (appropriate for CME, MOC/MOL) for APA’s Learning Center. The Senior Manager will develop, design, and deliver elearning projects in compliance with ACCME criteria and in agreement with American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) requirements for MOC. The Senior Manager will provide day-to-day management and oversight of APA’s online initiatives; will serve as an in-house expert in online education and the LMS, and liaison with outside vendors and APA’s IT Department, as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee, develop, and maintain the catalog of APA’s online CME courses
Partner with psychiatrists, allied organizations, and staff to develop content for courses
Develop and execute workflows for launching CME activities in APA’s Learning Center
Produce online courses in a variety of formats such as presentation capture, multi-part courses, self-assessments, performance in practice, pulsed learning exams, communities/learning collaboratives, question banks, and/or discussion boards
Implement instructional design best practices and techniques to engage adult learners through a consistent, yet creative aesthetic and utilization of interactive elements
Apply quality control standards to the design, execution, and maintenance of online courses
Import credit claim from Annual Meeting and IPS registration vendor into user transcripts
Ensure adherence to ACCME criteria for online education in conjunction with the CME Team
Produce regular reports of Learning Center activity and transmit relevant user data to external groups per grant, contract, and/or accreditation requirements (e.g., SAMSHA, AACME, ABPN, AAAP)
Distribute a monthly snapshot of completed online initiatives to key APA stakeholders
Troubleshoot technological issues related to the LMS and create/track debugging tickets for LMS vendor, question bank vendor, and/or APA’s IT Department
Educate and support APA staff utilizing the LMS for report functionality or customer account access
Resolve customer inquiries related to online programs/products, course fees, transcripts, etc.
Interacts with outside technology vendors as related to special projects to ensure adherence to timeline, budget, and project deliverables.
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Skills, Experiences, and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in educational technology or related discipline preferred
5 years of experience in online learning management and/or instructional design
Experience working in and/or with associations industry preferred
Experience with adult educational and/or healthcare programs preferred
Strong project management skills; ability to set priorities, multitask, and meet deadlines on multiple, concurrent projects
Self-motivated, able to work independently, and shows attention to detail
Knowledge of how websites operate (i.e., databases, APIs, and content management systems)
Demonstrated experience with computer-based and/or software-as-a-service (SaaS) tools such as Salesforce, HTML, Captivate, Articulate Storyline 2, Articulate Replay, Microsoft 365, Adobe Premier, Vimeo, and/or other graphic and media design/production tools
