ACCREDITATION COUNCIL FOR GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION

The Director, Outcomes Research and Evaluation is responsible for providing oversight and leadership for research and evaluation of the impact of key ACGME initiatives, including the Milestones and the associated assessment system that informs accreditation. The Director, Outcomes Research and Evaluation will specifically focus on examining the impact of ACGME initiatives (e.g., the Milestones) on future training and clinical practice. The Director, Outcomes Research and Evaluation is responsible for working with key members of ACGME senior leadership, the Milestones team, and the Review Committees to coordinate research and evaluation strategies, feedback, and dissemination of results about lessons learned through outcomes research and evaluation projects and programs. The Director also works with outside organizations, including medical subspecialty societies, program director groups and organizations, the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), and specialty certification boards, to collaborate with and inform them of ongoing research and evaluation activities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the design, development, and implementation of outcomes research, initiatives of the Milestones and the associated assessment system that informs the accreditation system.
Coordinate outcomes research collaborations with key stakeholders, such as the medical certification boards, medical specialty and program director associations, health care delivery systems, health services, and medical education researchers.
Provide leadership and guidance to outcomes research and evaluation team for the ACGME and in the Department of Milestones.
Provide guidance and timely, supportive service to others in the organization performing outcomes-based research and evaluation.
Work with representatives of medical subspecialty societies and other organizations to assist in the use of assessment methods and approaches for the Milestones and outcomes-based assessments.
Work with the Senior Vice President, Milestones Development and Evaluation and other research staff members on research projects relating to clinical outcomes and the Milestones.
Serve as needed on internal ACGME committees.
Represent the ACGME at meetings with subspecialty societies, health care systems, and the ABMS and specialty certification boards.
Coordinate Research Committee meetings.
Coordinate and develop collaborations/ties to various agencies and Milestones database.
Supervise and mentor other staff members, including a project manager and statistician.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
PhD-level training or equivalent experience in psychometrics, medical education, and/or health services research required.
Additional fellowship training in education and/or health services research desirable.
Experience in teaching and presenting at the national level desirable.
Experience working with large educational, clinical databases and clinical registries required.
Must have awareness of implementation science and knowledge translation.
Must have experience working with graduate medical education programs.
Must have strong skills in outcomes-focused research, including data analysis, modelling, and interpretation.
Must have strong facilitator and communications skills for working with committees, external stakeholders, members of the Board of Directors, all levels of staff, and representatives of other organizations.
Must be able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet and adapt to rapidly changing deadlines.
Must be able to communicate the ACGME’s accreditation model and Milestones requirements on a variety of levels to public constituents, residents and fellows, program directors, and other medical professionals.
Must have experience in competency-based education and assessment in graduate medical education.
Must be able to develop and study assessment methods and tools using educational theory and empiric evidence.
Must be able to delegate.
Must have an excellent understanding of the ACGME mission and organizational procedures.
Must have a proven track record of scholarly publications and presentations.
Position requires significant use of standard office equipment, such as a personal computer, keyboard, mouse, company-wide network, copier, fax machine, telephone system, plus statistical software packages.
The Director, utcomes Research and Evaluation performs the majority of the work in the Chicago office of the ACGME with the typical physical demands of an office environment.
This position requires occasional weekend or evening work in conjunction with attendance at courses or meetings, and at times, a heavy time commitment, exceeding normal work hours, for research meetings.

While performing the duties of this job, the Director, Outcomes Research and Evaluation:
May be required to sit in meetings or courses for long periods of time.
Will frequently be required to sit and work for extended periods of time at computer terminal using various computer programs and other computer tools.
Must be willing to work some weekends as needed.
Must be willing and able to travel if required.
