Position: STS National Database Manager - Informatics
Reports to: Senior Manager, STS National Database
Manage informatics initiatives for the STS National Database, including data and software specification upgrades, performance measure specifications, and standardization of data elements to facilitate data linkages. Provide subject matter expertise in clinical informatics and applied health technology solutions. Work with volunteer cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, and anesthesiologists on STS governance bodies associated with the STS National Database.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in regular data specification upgrades for the STS National Database and facilitate the transition to standard electronic nomenclature wherever possible.
Identify data elements commonly found in electronic health records that can be automatically extracted into vendor software.
Work with the STS data warehouse and analytics staff to prepare data and software specifications for STS National Database software vendors.
Facilitate mapping of data elements across database versions.
Collaborate with data warehousing and analytics staff to help ensure timely completion of the vendor software certification process.
Assist in developing educational activities for data managers to promote data integrity.
Provide support and develop content for the annual Advances in Quality & Outcomes conference.
Monitor trends and advances in informatics related to clinical data registries and make recommendations for application to STS National Database operations.
Collaborate with the STS National Database Managers and staff from the Marketing and Communications Department to produce National Database newsletters.
Use clinical and informatics knowledge to support development and testing of electronic quality measures for submission to the National Quality Forum.
Collaborate with STS and ACC staff to harmonize common data elements with the STS/ACC TVT Registry, NCDR registries, and STS National Database.
Provide support to STS Government Relations staff with advocacy efforts related to healthcare information technology.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s in Healthcare Information Technology is preferred.
Minimum of five years of related work experience implementing healthcare technology in a clinical environment is required, including experience implementing interoperability frameworks and tools such as FHIR, APIs, CDAs, and HL7 Messages. Knowledge of medical terminology and databases, preferably in cardiology or cardiothoracic surgery. Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and other healthcare technology.
