The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) is looking for an experienced global leader to develop and manage our global strategy to support educators and leaders worldwide in the use of technology to solve tough problems in education. The role will focus on establishing sustainable relationships with regional partners who can extend ISTE’s services around the world. The Senior Director of International Programs will evaluate and prioritize international opportunities against ISTE core strengths in order to promote ISTE’s mission and the long-term growth of international advocacy and support for the effective use of technology to improve teaching and learning. The senior director will serve as the primary representative of ISTE outside of the Americas. The ideal candidate will bring extensive established education relationships across the globe, and a reputation as a thoughtful and trustworthy individual.
Essential Functions • Lead the ISTE team to develop, plan, execute and evaluate ISTE's global strategy. • Expand ISTE’s global impact through sustainable regional business partnerships. • Serve as primary contact for with ministries of education, NGOs, and foundations outside of the Americas. • Identify organizations that can serve as regional channel and delivery partners and managed a sustained presence. • Leverage past experiences and relationships, as well as new approaches and developments that occur in the global education and technology market, to advance organizational objectives and properly position ISTE for continued growth. • Leverage ISTE products, services and assets and customize region specific offerings to establish sources of long-term revenue. • Prioritize opportunities in order to create deeper, self-sustaining relationships and vet opportunities in terms of risk, complexity, cost-benefit, and long-term value. • Manage the communications and document review required to establish relationships. • Represent or manage other ISTE presence at global, regional and country-based conferences and meetings in a targeted manner with a clear objective of return on investment.
Minimum Qualification Guidelines • A minimum of 10 years' experience leading and directing educational technology initiatives outside of the US. Also desired: • Graduate degree in an education-related field. • Multilingual proficiency in English (required) and one or more additional languages (speaking and writing) is preferred. • Highly developed knowledge and expertise in education technology standards, models, competencies and frameworks globally and their application. • Experience in grant writing and management, including pursuing funding opportunities in government, private sector and foundations.
Critical skills and experience • Proven ability to develop and grow a portfolio of sustainable, funded relationships that generate the margin required for reinvestment. • Experience managing P&L and developing multi-year plans and budgets. • Experience managing teams that include a blend of employees, consultants and partners with a business-like focus on meeting goals including revenue. • A deep understanding of, and a passion for, the value of technology in education especially to close opportunity gaps. • Business development experience in the field of educational technology and professional development services. • Ability to manage and communicate effectively in in a cross-cultural environments with understanding cultural, political, and business norms and practices. • The ability to independently prioritize work to meet demanding deadlines while managing multiple projects and activities across business areas, functions, and geographies. • Combination of gravitas and engagement ability to present and relate in different environments from senior officials to keynotes to classrooms.
