The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for a Director to support ACC’s North American Flame Retardant Alliance (NAFRA). ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.
This position will serve as the director for NAFRA, which works to advance the interests of companies that manufacture flame retardants. The position will have primary responsibility for managing issues, programs, staff and budget to achieve NAFRA’s goals and objectives. This position will also work to coordinate NAFRA’s activities with the broader ACC and other key national, regional and international organizations.
Required qualifications include: at least 8-10 years of issue management experience in a business, trade or advocacy organization; strong leadership skills; the ability to manage complex projects across multiple venues in an integrated, strategic manner; the ability to facilitate a group to reach consensus; strong written and oral communication skills; a record of developing and delivering both oral and written testimony on legislative and regulatory matters; previous experience with organizational and budget management; a customer/member focus; experience working within a large organization and coordinating across groups; proven ability to learn and manage complex policy and technical issues; and the ability to travel both domestically and internationally, which could potentially include weekends. Work in or experience with the chemical industry or closely allied industry is highly desired.
