General Position Summary: The Senior Accountant is responsible for general accounting operations by controlling and verifying the financial transaction. This position will manage daily functions that include payroll, HR and accounts payable and Receivables. The Senior Accountant will also maintain the general ledger and help with month end close. A successful senior accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
Provide input into department’s goal setting process
Performs all accounts payable functions.
Manages Concur expense reporting system set up, employee accounts, maintenance, reporting, and general ledger posting.
Ensure year end reporting requirements are processed.
Assists with Annual Audit and budget.
Assist staff accountant with accounts receivables.
Assists staff accountant with Exhibitor and Attendee issues as they arise, including payment plans, funds transfer between shows, special document requests, etc.
Maintains contracts system.
Reviews staff accountants’ journal entries for accuracy and documentation compliance.
Perform monthly close routines related to bank transactions, payroll allocation, prepaids, liability reconciliation, revenue reconciliation, and other general accounts as assigned.
Maintains accounting controls by following SETS policies and procedures.
Onsite event duties include supporting management and operation of attendee and exhibitor registration.
Administers semi-monthly payroll.
Manages employee benefits, including open enrollment, PTO and FSA.
Manages onboarding and offboarding processes for employees.
Maintains company organizational chart.
Responsible for managing employee programs.
Work directly with the Accounting Manager & CFO on large projects at hand, this may include HR, financial or operational projects in nature. Completion of projects will work towards achieving SETS strategic goals.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with at least 3 years’ experience or 5 years of accounting experience without degree.
HR and Payroll experience
The ideal candidate must have knowledge of MS Office Suite and Accounting Software (Great Plains 13 preferred);
Strong verbal and written communication, attention to detail, customer service and organization skills.
Concur expense software preferred.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Concrete understanding of general ledger and full-cycle accounting processes.
Technical accounting and advanced Microsoft Excel skillset.
Ability to multitask and work independently.
Ability to meet and manage deadlines.
Ability to organize, manage time and prioritize workload.
Meticulous attention to detail and strong analytical skills necessary to compile data, analyze it and develop financial reports.
Ability to work in a team environment
Demonstrates strengths and abilities to interact with customers, employees, and managers at all levels in order to contribute and influence decision making and resolve conflict.
Solid PC skills and knowledge with windows operation system.
Software programs, Microsoft office suite, Great Plains (or accounting software experience) Salesforce/Map Your Show (or some database management experience).
Generally accepted accounting Principles (GAAP)
This position will work very closely with the CEO, Executive team and Directors of all departments. The Senior Accountant interacts with SEIA & SEPA staff and members, and outside vendors.
SETS is a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high work demands under very tight timelines. There are opportunities for growth in both accounting and human resource functions.
The successful candidate will have at some accounting experience in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Accounting. Will offer reliable, consistent, timely and accurate reporting in accordance with Generally Acceptable Accounting Procedures (GAAP). Working knowledge of Great Plains is PREFERRED, and proficiency in Excel, Word and is required. The successful candidate will have extreme attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
