The American Society for Public Administration—the nation’s leading membership association for the public administration profession—is seeking an exceptionally organized and talented events and professional development manager.
The manager is responsible for planning and overseeing ASPA’s premier annual event—a 1,300-attendee national conference—and managing its professional development activities, including a robust e-learning series. In this position, the manager engages collaboratively with fellow coworkers and volunteer leadership, playing an integral and leading role in all programming.
Manage the full conference planning cycle—including site sourcing, registration process, content planning, on-site execution and post-event follow up—for an annual conference with 1,300 attendees, 12 general sessions, 175 concurrent panels and ancillary events.
Lead the site selection process, contract negotiation and vendor sourcing for all events.
Work with staff leadership to develop the conference budget; track revenue and expenses against budget. Advise and assist in development of the organization’s overall budget.
Manage e-learning programs; identify and source relevant content and speakers for 2-3 webinars monthly; provide technical support.
Identify and cultivate cross-discipline partnerships for e-learning, sponsorships and other strategic opportunities.
Work collaboratively with communications and events staff to market and execute all conference and professional development programming.

Demonstrated experience in developing and managing program content and implementing best-in-class logistics.
Well skilled in contract negotiation and execution and budget development and management.
Keen multi-tasker and self-starter, highly detail oriented with superb verbal and written communications skills.
Strong record of relationship building with association volunteers and superior customer service skills.
Experience working with highly engaged volunteer leadership, preferably with public service or membership organizations
Outstanding technical abilities; knowledge of iMIS and GoToWebinar ideal.
Bachelor’s degree and minimum 5 years’ experience in conference/event planning.
CMP a plus.
