The Association Executive ("AE") of the El Paso Apartment Association (principal staff position) is primarily responsible for all administrative and operational functions of the organization and its ultimate success in implementing programs that fulfill the El Paso Apartment Association's mission. This position will be the principal spokesperson for the organization and will be the staff member primarily responsible for contract and project management for the El Paso Apartment Association. This principal staff position will hire and fire staff and oversee the budget and all financial and accounting systems.
The AE is also the chief executive for EPAA’s affiliate programs, including EPAA Cares!, EPAA PAC Fund, Under One Roof, and the EPAA Better Government Fund.
This person will also serve as the Association's primary contact with local elected officials (JPs, City Council Members, the mayor) and city staff.
Responsible for all communications with the Board of Directors and Executive Committee to keep them fully informed on the operations of the Association.
Responsible for the planning, promotion, and administration of all official Association meetings and events.
Successfully advocates on behalf of EPAA stakeholders with local elected officials, city staff, and state representatives.
Oversees and coordinates the strategic planning process every three years (or as otherwise determined by the Board of Directors), along with the annual programming and budgeting process.
Executes all contracts and commitments as authorized by the Board of Directors or established policies, and consistent with the By-Laws. This includes all sales or disposition of Association assets.
In collaboration with the membership committee, recruits new members to the organization to meet annual goals for growth.
Responsible for all communications with El Paso-based TAA and NAA delegates, alternates, officers and Board members regarding upcoming meetings, activities, policy discussions, and action items. Also responsible for all communications with TAA and NAA staff.
Develops and oversees the day-to-day specific administrative policies, procedures and programs to implement the general policies established by the Board of Directors.
Ensures that the financial goals of the Association are being met consistent with the objectives set forth by the Board of Directors. Ensures that all funds, physical assets and other property of the Association are appropriately safeguarded and administered.
Ensures that an annual audit is done by an external CPA firm and accurate monthly financial statements are prepared by staff and provided to the Board of Directors on a timely basis.
Plans, formulates and recommends for the approval of the Board of Directors the policies, programs, and activities which will further the mission and strategic direction.
Works closely with and supervises public affairs to develop and implement media/public relations goals and objectives that enhance the rental housing industry’s influence with officeholders as well as increased public acceptance and support of apartment communities and careers. Social media is a critical part of the strategy and tactics
Promotes interest and active participation by members in the Association’s activities, and reports results and trends on a regular basis to the Board of Directors and general membership.
Provides the necessary staff liaison and support to committee and task force chairs and members, enabling them to properly perform their functions at a high level. Ensures committee decisions and recommendations are submitted to the Board for approval.
Oversees the maintenance of an effective, well-organized website, social media sites, and blogs, providing wide-ranging services that meet members’ needs.
Works with the Technology Committee and staff to keep the Association on the cutting edge in applying new technology and IT services that benefit members and staff.
Responsible for leadership development, and works with the Nominating Committee to identify, recruit and train future leaders of the Association.
Carries out such other general or specific responsibilities as may be designated by the Board of Directors or Executive Committee.
Oversees the development and operation of many wide-ranging education programs that seek to advance the professional skills of the membership, as directed by the Education Committee and Board of Directors.
Must be available to travel and attend after-hour events as directed by the Board of Directors.
Within the guidelines established by the Board of Directors or Executive Committee, recruits, hires, assigns duties, promotes, determines compensation, establishes personnel policies and discharges all other employees of EPAA. Establishes and maintains a sound staff organization structure.
Develops and maintains a competitive and up-to-date salary/compensation structure and administration plan for Association employees, which is reviewed annually with the Executive Committee.
Obtains maximum utilization of staff by clearly defining their duties, establishing performance standards, meeting individually on a regular basis and conducting annual performance reviews.
The Association Executive will be thoroughly committed to the El Paso Apartment Association’s mission and strategic direction. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
Must have a valid driver’s license and car with insurance.
Bachelors or master’s degree
Familiarity with the processes of governance at the local and state level. Experience successfully advocating on behalf of an industry or non-profit organization with elected officials and city staff.
