The role of Professional Practice Lead has been created to help further establish the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) as a thought leader in the contracting and acquisition practice. Communicating with our members and the greater contracting audience, you will create a community of practice for industry leaders to discuss emerging trends.
Working with leadership, you will monitor, forecast, explore, and write about a variety of topics relevant to the interests of NCMA members. Subjects could vary from artificial intelligence and robotic process automation to changing regulations. Through articles, social media posts, podcasts, blogs, survey report narratives, and other content, you will drive timely and engaging communication that supports our strategic plan and marketing goals while establishing NCMA products and services as the “gold standard” among members, customers, staff, volunteers, and the contracting community.
This is a highly visible role where you will be expected to get to know industry thought leaders and monitor media and publications to stay up to date with changes and challenges. Reporting to the chief professional development officer, you will ensure that our products, services, and training are relevant, of the highest quality, and responsive to the ever-evolving needs of our organization.

Responsibilities of the Contracts and Acquisition Practice Leader
Establish NCMA as a thought leader in the acquisition and contracting practice.
Monitor and predict emerging trends and their potential impacts on members, customers, training products, event offerings and materials serving the needs of the practice community and NCMA members.
Understand and communicate to colleagues the needs of the varied segments of our community and membership.
Conduct surveys and other research to inform colleagues, board members and committees, and the broader practice community regarding various attributes of the work, workforce, and best practices.
Conduct professional research and produce or support professional articles and videos.
Build relationships with leaders, subject matter experts, and rising professionals within the practice community.
Act as staff liaison to the Professional Development and Certification Committee.
Work with marketing to support branding within practice.
Lead projects related to thought leadership and standards.
Oversee the effective and efficient operations of NCMA’s certification processes to ensure compliance with ANSI standards.
Conduct business case analyses for new projects including projects that expand ANSI certifications.
Supervise the certification specialist/manager.
Qualifications of the Contracts and Acquisition Practice Leader
Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in business, contracting, supply chain management, risk management or related field is preferred.
8 to 12 years of government contracting and/or acquisition experience is required.
Training and experience in conducting research and analysis is required; practice leader experience is preferred. Published works is a plus.
