The American Public Power Association is seeking a Senior Director, Information Technology to lead APPA’s overall IT strategy to implement secure systems that scale for future growth and technology needs. Under the direction of the Vice President, Human Resources & Administration, the Senior Director, Information Technology will be expected to manage all aspects of APPA’s day-to-day IT operational activities to ensure systems, policies, and procedures support organizational priorities and overall IT strategy.
Some of the incumbent’s main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
General IT Management:
Overseeing APPA’s technical projects, including business requirements gathering, project planning, implementation within the framework of the IT governance structure.
Providing project management for internal technology projects, including requirements analysis, level of effort, and budget estimates.
Responsible for developing and managing IT operational and capital budgets.
Approving the selection, purchase, and installation of hardware, software, and related services, negotiating purchase agreements, and managing vendor relationships.
Ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of hardware, software, and data through establishing and enforcing technology policies and procedures and through managing the work of the internal Information Security Advisory Committee (ISAC).
Working with the Director of Database Systems to ensure the integrity and security of association management system (AMS) as well as its integration with APPA’s website.
Co-leading APPA’s strategic plan initiative on cybersecurity preparedness.
IT Support & Desktop Engineering:
Managing the desktop computing environment, including upgrades, development, maintenance, and versioning of the OS for both Windows and Apple users.
Managing external IT helpdesk vendor relationship, including monitoring adherence to established SLA timeframes, follow-up, and ticket resolution.
The ideal candidate should have:
Degree from a 4-year college or university in computer science or similar field
Ten or more years of IT experience with increasing responsibility
Five or more years of network experience in a Windows Server environment
Strong customer service acumen, including the ability to effectively communicate, work with, and resolve IT issues for all levels of staff
Strong project management skills and ability to work cooperatively with staff and vendors
Strong understanding of cybersecurity issues and experience with working within a cybersecurity program
Experience supporting a variety of enterprise software applications (association management system, CRM, ERP, etc.). Experience with Fonteva or other Salesforce platforms a plus.
Experience with the MS Azure cloud computing platform required
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite
Experience with VOIP telephony required
Experience with deploying and troubleshooting Apple computers in a Windows network.
Familiar with deploying and managing wireless networks
Experience deploying remote access systems in cloud based, remote desktop and VPN settings
Experience deploying and managing mobile devices on an enterprise level
Ability to undertake complex management tasks within the functional area with minimal supervision
