The Biomedical Engineering Society is looking for a dynamic professional to fill a newly created position of Events Director. This position reports to the Executive Director and fulfills a key role in executing BMES’ Annual Meeting of 5,000+ professional attendees. The ideal candidate must thrive in a challenging and fast passed environment, can work independently and multi-task successfully.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee and facilitate all aspects of meeting planning from site selection, vendor negotiation, onsite management and post-event reporting for BMES’ Annual Meeting and Special Interest Group meetings
Coordinate event logistics including hotel accommodations, food and beverage service, meeting room setup, etc.
Develop and maintain solid relationships with exhibitors/sponsors
Develop original, imaginative ideas for meetings and implement them.
Create/design event materials and signage
Oversee meeting preparation, supplies ordering and packing/shipping of meeting materials
Create and analyze online evaluations and prepare post-event reports
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications and Experience
5+ years professional meeting experience (nonprofit or association experience preferred)
Prior experience coordinating large (2500+) events
Proven track record of generating revenue from events
Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) a plus
Up to date on current trends in the meetings industry
Innovative and resourceful; actively seeks opportunities to improve meetings and events
Experienced at negotiating and building partnerships with vendors
Strong time management skills and ability to manage concurrent tasks efficiently
High energy, positive, professional attitude, pride in work product
Experience working with exhibitors and sponsors
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

Additional Salary Information: This is an exempt position; salary commiserate with experience. The office is located in Landover, MD. Currently working remotely due to Covid-19. Flexible remote working options will be available but there is expectation to travel periodically to physical office at some point during 2021.
