Summary
Seeking a collaborative project management professional to lead and supervise the association’s project management team. The Manager, Project Management works with the Department Director to ensure project management resources are being deployed to the most important projects across the association. The right candidate for this position is able to develop complex project plans, lead and facilitate project team meetings, and communicate across the enterprise to ensure projects run smoothly and to hold people accountable. This candidate is comfortable working across a broad mix of projects, from software and system implementations to large association conferences and events, and can manage multiple projects at once. Most importantly, the right candidate is able to identify gaps and connect dots among the tasks and people in a project to ensure nothing falls through the cracks. 

Essential Functions

  • Develops and maintains processes and tools for effective project management across the association
  • Uses project management skills to set priorities and allocate time and resources effectively
  • Manages a portfolio of projects, including creating project plans, leading project teams, facilitating project team meetings, and holding project teams accountable to deadlines and deliverables, staying on time and on budget
  • Maintains a status dashboard of priority projects for senior leadership
  • Directly supervises staff. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and coaching skill development, among others.

  • Complies with all APTA policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to foster achievement of association priorities.

 

Qualifications

  • 7+ years’ project management or similar experience
  • Detailed knowledge of project management functions and best practices, with proven ability to multitask and adhere to tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team building; ability to collaborate with stakeholders and leaders across the organization
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Staff supervisory experience preferred
  • PMP preferred
  • Familiarity with Asana preferred
  • Experience in a member-oriented association preferred
