About AMT

Founded in 1939, American Medical Technologists (AMT) is a global, member-led, allied health certification organization that promotes and supports its member certificants. AMT is a nationally and internationally recognized certification agency and membership society for nine allied health profession disciplines, including medical technologists, medical assistants, dental assistants, allied health instructors, molecular diagnostics technologists, medical laboratory assistants, medical administrative specialists, and phlebotomy technicians.

AMT’s purpose is to help protect the welfare of the public by maintaining competency standards in these occupations. There are five strategic themes of AMT’s 2020-2023 Strategic Plan: Excellence in Certification Services; Effective Membership Support; Proficient and Competent Certificants; Industry Recognition and; Fiscal Stability and Governance Vitality. A 501 (c) (6) organization, AMT has annual revenues of $9M and a staff of 50.

THE POSITION

Overview

The Governance Coordinator is a new position to support AMT’s Executive Director in organization governance. The Governance Coordinator will be responsible for managing and tracking activities related to the AMT Board of Directors, State Society and District Council leaders, as well as several governance committees. The coordinator will also be responsible for assisting the Executive Director by proactively monitoring, tracking and advising when federal and state regulations may require further attention from the Executive Director or Regulatory Affairs.  They will assist the Executive Director in pursuing AMT acceptance with various industry and regulatory organizations. This position will maintain AMT organization-wide as well as board policies and procedures and will assist the Executive Director with other administrative duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Governance

Manage ongoing activities related to the AMT Board of Directors, State Society and District Council leaders and several governance committees.

  • Schedule and assist with operating Board and Council meetings and calls
  • Work with the Director of Education & Meetings to plan board meetings
  • Prepare Board and Annual Business Meeting Books and attend corresponding meetings, draft, distribute, and manage the storage of minutes
  • Manage the flow of information between the board and staff, including the agenda for board meetings as well as any necessary documents to be included
  • Staff Board committees as required
  • Manage the member directory, member award applications, submissions, and distribution; state rebate program; committee appointment and delegate selection processes and related communications.
  • Attend and help manage business activities at the Annual Business Meeting
  • Manage and edit state society communications, websites and meeting registrations
  • Assist with the tracking of attendance and reimbursement for volunteer attendees of meetings
  • Respond to state society inquires and requests via email, phone and online communities

 

Federal, State and Industry Regulatory Affairs

Monitor, track and advise Regulatory Affairs when action may be needed to ensure AMT is appropriately recognized and represented in federal and state regulations and is accepted with various industry and regulatory agencies.

  • Work with the Government Affairs Committee and Regulatory Affairs to help create and implement a legislative agenda
  • Monitor and proactively respond to ongoing state activities through StateNet
  • Work with committees, the Executive Director and Regulatory Affairs to draft comments, position statements and encourage member grass-roots activity
  • Coordinate across multiple AMT departments and with Regulatory Affairs to ensure the visibility and acceptance of AMT certifications nationwide.
  • Attend calls, meetings to represent AMT in various industry-related forums

 

Organizational Activities

  • Maintain organization-wide records, files, policies and procedures
  • Monitor various accreditation standards related to AMT certifications
  • Coordinate a multi-department staff group to draft and submit responses required for annual and periodic reporting to AMT accreditors
  • Represent AMT at various professional organizational meetings, as requested
  • Monitor AMT Career Connection, AMT’s job portal
  • Assist the Executive Director in other administrative duties

 

Job Relationships: The Governance Coordinator reports to the Executive Director.

Work Environment or Physical Requirements:

  • The daily tasks of this position are normally accomplished while seated at a desk and computer terminal
  • Regular phone, email, and internet communications
  • Will use general office equipment
  • The employee must occasionally to rarely lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
  • Some travel is required (up to 10%)

This position is mostly remote, occasional travel to the office will be needed

Education, Skills, and Background Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Three to five years’ experience in association management, specifically working with Boards, state society chapters and other association leaders
  • Experience in regulatory, legislative affairs and accreditors a plus
  • Ability to perform detailed tasks with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Very strong multitasking necessary. The ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate a high volume and variety of projects simultaneously is essential
  • High level of experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and PowerPoint) is needed

High level of ethical behavior and ability to maintain confidentiality is essential
