Who we are:

The Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), a professional membership association, promotes the advancement and professional development of its members who prepare the next generation of internal medicine physicians and leaders through education, research, engagement, and collaboration. Representing over 11,000 members, AAIM is the largest association of faculty and administrative staff serving in departments of medicine. AAIM’s Education and Research team is seeking a Surveys and Data Senior Specialist, reporting to the Assistant Director of Surveys and Research. What this job is about:

The Surveys and Data Senior Specialist will be instrumental in expanding a growing AAIM Survey and Data Center, which assists members in conducting non-clinical research on their discipline and profession. Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Surveys and Research, and the Surveys and Research Manager, this position supports the operations of the survey committee-driven recurring research surveys as well as non-survey committee data-gathering projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to annual and periodic research survey data collection: collates, reviews, and edits draft committee-driven survey sections; programs web survey instruments; coordinates survey pre- and pilot-tests and inputs content revisions; prepares survey population datafiles; oversees survey fielding/data collection and dataset management; and cleans final datasets for summary results reporting.
  • Conducts secondary data analysis for committee writing groups (as needed) preparing scholarly works based on thematic survey sections.
  • Identifies pre-testers and pilot-testers for research surveys to improve the validity of survey questions.
  • Serves as a secondary point of contact for/liaison to standing survey committees.
  • Maintains certification in human subjects research (HSR) training, including a valid HSR training completion certificate and knowledge of data confidentiality; applies these practices to ensure AAIM survey data integrity; serves as project personnel for survey study protocols.
  • Compiles background materials for committee meetings as needed; documents meeting action items and decisions through detailed note taking. Schedules virtual and in-person committee meetings and off-cycle virtual meetings as needed. May be requested to attend offsite in-person and other virtual meetings to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
  • Quality-control checks summary and secondary data analyses conducted by other Surveys staff as well as survey section authors developing scholarly works.
  • Collaborate with other AAIM teams to assist in developing and fielding non-research data collection efforts such as member needs surveys, AAIM professional conference evaluations, and other “off-cycle” surveys.

Requirements:

  • Minimum four years of experience including survey question writing/development, quantitative data management, analysis, and reporting, and project and vendor management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., sociology, psychology, behavioral science, social statistics, political science, economics) with a focus on quantitative research methods required.
  • Close familiarity and experience with professional/disciplinary association or institutional research (primarily through quantitative data collection).
  • Close familiarity with human subjects research (HSR) protections and ability to maintain a valid HSR training certificate at all times.
  • Strong research methods training in intermediate applied statistics (descriptive and limited inferential) for survey/survey-like data and survey instrument design for content validity, inclusive of web survey software programming and administration.
  • Proven intermediate or advanced competency in use of commonly used statistical software packages and professional survey software suites (Stata and Qualtrics preferred, or SPSS and other packages such as RedCap or another commercial survey software suite).
  • Skill in building and establishing relationships with member volunteers or clients, and the ability to facilitate project activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff, committee members, and leadership.
  • Organized, self-directed, self-motivated, detail- and deadline-oriented.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple/competing activities in a fast-paced environment and to meet critical deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for general as well as technical audiences.
  • Some travel involved for professional conferences.
