Western Wood Preservers Institute (WWPI) is seeking an experienced, visionary leader to serve as its next Executive Director. WWPI represents the preservative- and fire-retardant-treated wood industry across western North America, working to sustain and support the safe, environmentally responsible and innovative use of preserved wood products.
Location: Vancouver, Washington Start Date: June 1, 2026 Salary Range: $170,000–$190,000 annually, commensurate with experience Benefits: Medical insurance, 401(k), PTO, bonus
About WWPI WWPI is a nonprofit member trade organization located in Vancouver, Wash., representing the interests of the preserved wood products industry throughout western North America for more than 75 years. The membership consists of companies that either manufacture products, are directly affiliated or provide a service to the preserved wood industry. The primary activity areas of the WWPI include regulatory and market outreach programs aimed at sustaining a viable western North America preserved wood industry.
WWPI’s mission is to advance the industry through coordinated strategies that:
Build public and customer confidence in treated wood products
Support balanced and science-based environmental regulations
Protect and support the production and use of preserved wood products manufactured by its Members
Position Overview
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for guiding the organization’s strategic direction, overseeing all program areas, and ensuring the effective management of staff, finances, outreach efforts, and member engagement. This role requires exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills across technical, regulatory, and industry contexts.
Key Responsibilities
Identify emerging issues affecting industry markets and regulations; lead effective strategies for resolution
Serve as WWPI’s primary spokesperson to members, industry partners, regulators and the public
Oversee and support staff across Government Relations, Marketing, and Finance & Operations
Manage key program areas including Regulatory Affairs, Lumber & Plywood, Fire Retardants, Utility Poles, and Aquatics & Agriculture
Develop and execute annual budgets, work plans and long-term strategies
Maintain strong relationships with member companies and collaborate with affiliated associations
Provide oversight for the North American Wood Pole Council as the Institute’s lead representative
Ensure the effective implementation of outreach programs and timely communication of industry information
Manage consultants, grants, investments and institute financial reserves
Coordinate agendas and planning for Board meetings and membership events
Travel as needed throughout North America
Qualifications
College degree and/or equivalent experience
Management experience (minimum 5+ years) with demonstrated success leading teams and programs
Experience in wood treating, wood products or a related industry strongly preferred
Strong communication skills, including public speaking
Proven ability in regulatory/legislative affairs, negotiation, and conflict resolution
Experience in marketing or sales program management
Competency in budgeting, financial forecasting and strategic planning
Comfortable with digital tools and media
Preferred to work at the Vancouver, Wash. offices
